How to Play 5 card Poker

This is one of the simplest poker games you’ll ever find or play at your favorite casino. The rules are simple and easy to follow. It does not matter whether you are a pro or a beginner, the rules and guidelines are so simple.

For many poker players, 5 card poker is the starting point in poker game. Despite being overtaken by other games, there are still many 5 card poker lovers out there.

5 Card Poker Basics

This game is played using standard cards. Up to 8 players can participate. Limited to 6 players max because it’s possible to run out of playing cards when more than 6 players take part. Just like other poker versions, the goal in this game is to the pot with the chips bet in a given hand.

You can win the pot if you have the best 5 card poker hand or through forcing players to fold.

When starting, each player is given 5 cards. Each player then has an opportunity to exchange the cards in order to improve their hand. Only a max of 2 betting rounds can take place. However, a hand can end if all but one of the players folds after the 1st round.

Blinds and Antes

Before 5 card poker game starts, players must agree whether to use blinds or antes. If players agree to use blinds, then a player to the left of the dealer pays a small blind at the start of every hand and the player to their left will pay the big blind.

The players must also agree the size of blinds and antes used. The big blind can be twice the size the size of the small blind when blinds are used.

The deal

After every player has anted or after paying the blinds, the dealer then gives every player five cards face down from the left.

The first betting round ensures after each player receives five cards.

The betting starts with the player to the left of the dealer if you are playing with antes. If you are playing with blinds, then the betting starts with the player to the left of the big blind.

The Draw Round

The draw round begins with the player closest to the left of the dealer after the betting round completes. This player has an option of changing their cards if he has not folded.

The showdown and the second betting round

Each player must evaluate what they have on their hand and proceed to the second betting round once they have all received their new cards. After this betting round is completed, it’s time for showdown. The winner of the pot is the player with the best 5- card poker hand.

After the showdown, the dealer then collects all the cards and passes the deal to a player on his left.
